Natural Oils for Hair & Scalp Health

Are you facing challenges with hair loss, a dry and itchy scalp, or dull hair? Fortunately, there are effective natural methods to address these concerns. Although you may find numerous oil options through a simple online search, not all of them are advisable. Below are a few of my preferred organic oils that can benefit both your scalp and hair.

Rosemary Oil

This is one oil I will always recommend, as it not only helps your hair growth, but it stimulates blood flow and blocks DHT (a type of testosterone that shrinks and weakens the hair follicles.) The best way to incorporate this oil is to add a couple drops of rosemary essential oil with a carrier oil (like coconut, sunflower or pumpkin seed oil-see below for their additional benefits) and massage into the scalp for 5 minutes then rinse. You can also find Rosemary in many of our Simply Organic shampoos.

Coconut Oil

This oil helps moisturize the scalp and repairs the moisture barrier over time. It also works to get rid of that unwanted dry flaky dandruff also known as Seborrheic Dermatitis.

Pumpkin Seed Oil

With all of the vitamins and minerals in pumpkin seed oil, it makes this oil the go to oil for male baldness, as it stimulates hair growth and increases the thickness of your hair. It also helps with hormonal hair loss also known as Androgenic Alopecia.

Onion Juice

This oil may sound stinky but it does have its benefits for your scalp. Onion juice contains sulfur which prevents hair loss and also has antibacterial and antifungal components which helps prevent dandruff and infections, it also regenerates and produces more collagen which promotes hair growth. The best way to incorporate this is to chop an onion, strain the juice, then massage on the scalp for about 5 minutes. Follow up with a yummy-smelling shampoo & Conditioner (try our "Refresh Hair + Scalp Wash and Rinse")

Sunflower Oil

This oil contains high omega fatty acids and vitamins A and C which are anti-inflammatory. This, in turn, helps heal the scalp. Sunflower Oil is also moisturizing and conditions damaged hair and helps prevent breakage from damaged hair.

Green Tea

This may not be an oil but I added it to the list because it does wonders for your scalp's health. This tea stimulates the hair follicles and contains antimicrobial properties which helps fight fungal infections like dandruff. It can even slow the process of greying with its antioxidants. With all of these components green tea also helps soothe the scalp and controls the production of sebum which nourishes the scalp.

As you can see, there are many natural options when it comes to hair and scalp health. Let me know if you try one and how you like the results! If you'd like a professional scalp & hair analysis, reserve a Scalp + Hair Wellness Treatment with me and I'll guide you in the right direction.
